Air Jordan 1 and the 37 collaborations you can't help but know
A few days ago we at Atipici shared the images of a unique sneaker, the result of an imaginary collaboration between Jordan and Amuchina; had you seen her?
If many of you played along, sharing and appreciating the tone with which we chose to play down the pandemic situation, there were quite a few actual requests for information about the release method of the shoe... come on guys, are you serious?
It is also true that collaborations today are an expanding field from which combinations emerge daily that were previously unsuspected (what do you think of Chiara Ferragni for Oreo? ) and that both Nike and Jordan in recent years have not held back when they it was about surprising us with unexpected collaborations...but Air Jordan x Amuchina would have been really too much!
In any case, perhaps this is the right opportunity to review all (or almost all) of AJ1's collaborations... and to try to imagine what to expect for the future.
1. Levi's x Air Jordan 1 Retro
Release Date: 03/01/2008
The first collaboration recorded for the AJ1 was the one with the denim giant Levi's: the two brands launched a model with attention to the smallest details in which the red leather upper alternated with the elephant motif made of denim and the eyelets were inspired by buttons of the iconic jeans.
2. Tony Taylor x Air Jordan 1 High Retro “Doernbecher”
Release Date: 11/14/2008
The story of the second AJ1 collaboration is the story, at times moving, which sees the American giant choosing to create a shoe based on the design of a young patient of the Doernbecher pediatric hospital, Tony Taylor, and to donate part of the proceeds of its sales ( 600 thousand dollars, to be exact) at the hospital itself.
3. A Tribe Called Quest x Air Jordan 1 High Strap
Release Date: 02/02/2009
Almost twenty years after the release of the timeless album "The Low End Theory" by A tribe Called Quest, Nike gave Hip Hop Heads around the world an AJ1 that celebrated the iconic graphics of that album.
4. Dave White x Air Jordan 1 High 'Wings For The Future(s)'
Release Date: Gold: 02/17/2011; Black: 02/11/2012
This collaboration with the English artist Dave White did not immediately have the desired effect. Perhaps for the aspect that is more of a piece of art than a shoe to wear, or perhaps for the patriotic post-September 11 inspiration reinterpreted by a British and not American artist, but on the day of its release the model received a lukewarm reception from part of the sneakerheads of the time, only to then enter the reselling mechanisms immediately afterwards and reach astronomical values.
5. Don C x Air Jordan 1 'BHM'
Release Date: 2013
This collaboration celebrated the 37th anniversary of Black History Month with a very limited edition (only 37 pairs) whose proceeds were donated to the Big Brother and Big Sisters of America foundation.
6. Public Schools x Air Jordan 1
Release Date: 2014
Legendary and extremely stylish, the first of the various collaborations between Jordan and the New York brand Public School laid the foundations for a true creative join venture.
7. Nike SB x Air Jordan 1
Release Date: 03/15/2014
The release of this model marks a historic date, when the barriers between the basketball and skate worlds are broken down in the Nike universe and in the sneaker imagination. This Air Jordan 1 celebrates skate culture by paying homage to one of its pioneers, Craig Stecyk (aka CR Stecyk III). 
8. Lance Mountain x Nike SB x Air Jordan 1
Release Date: 06/07/2014
This shoe, available in two colors, was, with its own style scratch away and the mismatched pairing, an illustrious example of how going outside the box often pays off!
9. Fragment Design x Air Jordan 1 High
Release Date: 12/27/2014
A milestone in collaborations, this AJ1 x Fragment Design marks the Jordan brand's approach to overseas luxury and does so with resounding success. The very stylish sneakers designed by Hiroshi Fujiwara (the "Frags" to friends) are, in fact, among the most replicated on the secondary market... watch out for fakes!
10. TEDxPortland x Air Jordan 1 “Perfect”
Release Date: 2014
On the occasion of the Portland event, TEDx selected the AJ1 as the perfect shoe... Obviously our friends from Austin didn't have to be told twice and launched this Air Jordan 1 in a double colorway in which the concept was explained in no uncertain terms: with a huge “PERFECT” writing along the entire sole.
11. Dover Street Market x Air Jordan 1
Release Date: 2015
How can we not mention the collaboration with Dover Street Market, excellence in terms of Premium Streetwear which gave all AJ1 addicts a one-of-a-kind model in terms of essentiality and class.
12. Don C x Air Jordan 1 BHM
Release Date: 2015
This was the second of the collaborations between Jordan and Don C who, after the first in 2013, celebrated the 39th anniversary of Black History Month with a very limited release of this super cool model.
13. Quai 54 x Air Jordan 1
Release Date: 07/08/2017
In the summer of 2017 Jordan and the famous Parisian streetball tournament launched a black suede AJ1 with mismatched colorways and the Quai 54 logos on the tongue... you'll fall in love with it!
14. Off-White Air Jordan 1 “Chicago”
Release Date: 09/09/2017
A month later it was time for the collaboration par excellence, one of the most talked about of all time: the first Off-White x Air Jordan 1 in the iconic colorway, Virgil Abloh's favorite... the rest is history!

Release Date: 10/28/2017
Designed by sneakerhead and influencer Aleali May, this AJ1 was one of the first designed exclusively to be a women's model, full of details and premium materials.
16. Union LA x Air Jordan 1 “Gold Toe Top-3”
Release Date: 11/03/2017
It seems that the agreement for this collaboration was finalized in a very short time, so much so that Chris Gibbs of Union LA feared he wouldn't be able to present his golden jewels at Complexcon that year; well, he succeeded and sneakerheads literally tore them out of their hands to get a pair.
17. Gatorade x Air Jordan 1 High
Release Date: 12/26/2017
This collaboration is a fervent homage to the 90s commercials that saw MJ promoting the famous sports drink. The four colorways reflect the colors and retro mood.
18. Off-White x Air Jordan 1 High “White”
Release Date: 03/03/2018
If exclusivity had a name it would be called Off-White x AJ1 “White” … if you have a pair, keep them in the safe!

2018 was undoubtedly the year in which Streetwear took over Fashion and international fashion icon Anna Wintour could not be outdone. Thus was born the collaboration between Jordan and Vogue with a model in two colorways exclusively for super fashion women.
21. Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 1
Release Date: 01/09/2018
This collaboration marks the closeness of the Jordan universe to the world of BMX with a model designed together with Youtuber Nigel Sylvester, an early AJ1 addict, for evolutions on two wheels.

Clearly the Air Jordan 1 doesn't just mean more basketball, but embraces an ever-wider world of cultural and sporting references. In this context the AJ1 x PSG fits in this absolutely minimal BRED colorway.

In this second collaboration there is all the creativity of the Los Angeles collective who chose to rethink the AJ1 by 'Frankensteinizing' them. The entire upper is deconstructed and the pieces are "stitched together" according to an exquisitely vintage taste.

Who doesn't remember the images of the crowds at the Miami event to win the very limited SoleFly AJ1 in the colorways inspired by the Miami Heats? Only 23 were released: the most limited release in history.

Part of the highly acclaimed “ Fearless ” series, these AJs are the result of the collaboration with fashionista Melody Ehsani: mismatch to the nth degree, colorful details, a functioning golden watch instead of the traditional lace-upper and the writing “If you knew what you had was rare, you would never waste it” on the soles… sober!
36. Air Jordan 1 Mid “Fearless” x CLOT
Release Date: 11/27/2019
Also part of the "Fearless" team, these AJ1s are the result of Edison Chen's creative effort aimed at channeling the inspirations of his China with the West represented by the Jordan model. The result is two models, one in White and one in Triple Black, in which Chinese silk wraps the upper of the AJ1 for a goosebumps-like effect.
37. Air Jordan x DIOR
Release Date: April 2020
And, last but not least, here are the highly anticipated AJ1 x Dior, officially presented by Kim Jones on the occasion of the Pre-Fall 2020 launch of the French fashion house. The edition will be very limited and the retail price will be €2,000 per pair. Cop or Drop?
