Air Jordan Retro Sneakers: The icons of Jordan OG style
Jordan sneakers have a history spanning more than thirty years. They are among the most desired shoes in the world, since their inception, when in the mid-80s they were made only to be used by Michael Jordan on the pitch.
The first, produced in 1984, were, as we know, the iconic ones Air Jordan 1 in black and red. They were designed by Peter Moore and then worn by MJ in 1985.
In the beginning it wasn't all rosy. In 1985, NBA Commissioner David Stern banned Michael from wearing the Air Jordan 1 on the court. The model and colors in fact violated the expected dress code. Nike didn't give up and actually saw this situation as a perfect marketing strategy . The brand would pay Jordan's hefty fines and release a commercial giving the shoes the nickname AJ1 "Banned" .
The models followed one another, obtaining more and more approval from the public. Meanwhile, Nike and Jordan saw their success increase exponentially.
The Jordan and Nike logos continued to coexist on the shoe until Air Jordan VI . They were the Air Jordan VII paving the way for an era of Jordans without the Swoosh.
Tinker Hatfield, designer of most Jordan sneakers, understood that the Air Jordan line had achieved enough success that it could fly on its own. Also thanks to director Spike Lee and the extravagant advertisements he created to sponsor the brand.
For those nostalgic for Jordan's early days, the Limited Edition Retro arrives. They are nothing more than the reinterpretations of the OG models that have made the history of the brand. The Retro versions are launched at different times of the year in very few ultra-selected stores.
Each shoe tells a story. From design to colors, everything is chosen taking inspiration from Michael Jordan's life on and off the pitch.
